NEW YORK — Former top-10 sensation Paula Badosa has officially withdrawn from the U.S. Open, citing a persistent back injury that has kept her off the court since her early exit at Wimbledon on June 30.

The U.S. Tennis Association confirmed Badosa’s departure and announced that Jil Teichmann will step in to take her place in the lineup. If there are any further withdrawals, Alizé Cornet—who made her return to the sport this year after retiring last season—will be the next woman to join the draw at Flushing Meadows.

The singles matches are set to kick off on August 24 for this year’s final Grand Slam event.

Badosa, a talented 27-year-old from Spain, achieved her highest ranking at No. 2 in 2022 and currently sits at No. 12.

This January, she made a strong impression by reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open, while her best performance at the U.S. Open came last year when she advanced to the quarterfinals.
