The exhilarating journey of Naomi Osaka as she reclaims her spot among the elite tennis players is one of the key narratives unfolding at the National Bank Open, presented by Rogers.

Once the pinnacle of women’s tennis in 2019 and a four-time Grand Slam champion, Osaka has shown remarkable form in Montreal, surrendering only a single set in her four matches. On Tuesday, the 27-year-old will face a formidable opponent in the quarterfinals: Elina Svitolina from Ukraine, currently ranked 12th in the world, on the prestigious Centre Court at IGA Stadium.

Ranked 49th globally, Osaka took a break for maternity leave during 2023. Now, she is gradually rediscovering her form in 2025, with hopes of making a remarkable impact at the NBO.

While Osaka’s resurgence is captivating audiences at the tournament, there are plenty of other storylines to watch as the competition heats up on the penultimate day of the NBO in Montreal and Toronto.

Men’s Quarterfinals Progress

In Toronto, the race for semifinal berths continues, following Alexander Zverev and Karen Khachanov securing their spots on Monday with impressive victories.

Fans can look forward to an electrifying matchup as world No. 4 Taylor Fritz aims for glory against Andrey Rublev in a prime slot on Centre Court at Sobeys Stadium. Fritz, having narrowly escaped a tense battle against Canadian Gabriel Diallo earlier, encountered another thrilling showdown that saw him face three tie-breaks against Jiri Lehecka in the Round of 16.

Meanwhile, rising star Ben Shelton, now ranked 7th in the world, will take on Australian Alex de Minaur in the final men’s quarterfinal. Both players are coming off gripping three-set victories, with Shelton edging out Flavio Cobolli and de Minaur triumphing over Frances Tiafoe.

With the top five seeds knocked out, Madison Keys emerges as the highest-ranked player remaining, set to battle 16th seed Clara Tauson of Denmark on Centre Court at IGA. Keys advanced after a nail-biting third-set tie-break against Karolina Muchova on Sunday.

Following the clash between Keys and Tauson, Osaka will face Svitolina in the concluding quarterfinal match of the women’s draw on Centre Court.
