Moise Kouame dazzled fans on Thursday at the Miami Open presented by Itau, marking his entry into the record books as the first player born in 2009 or later to secure a victory on the ATP Tour.

As a wild card making his debut in the main draw of an ATP Masters 1000 event, the 17-year-old French sensation showcased his poise by triumphing over qualifier Zachary Svajda with scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. With this win, Kouame not only secured his place as the youngest victor in Miami Open history but also as the youngest ATP Masters 1000 match winner since Rafael Nadal in 2003.

“This is monumental,” Kouame shared with Tennis Channel following his win. “My first main draw at a Masters 1000 here in Miami—such an amazing venue! I’m thrilled to have won this match today, and I aim to achieve even more.”

“This is my debut, so honestly, I didn’t anticipate all of this excitement, but here I am. I have to adapt to this quickly. This victory fills me with confidence and reassures me that I’m on the right track. I just have to keep putting in the effort.”

While serving at 3-4 in the second set, Kouame found himself down 0/40 but rallied to win 14 of the next 16 points, turning the match in his favor and forcing a decisive set. Overall, the impressive 6’3” athlete saved 10 of 12 break points, as noted by Infosys ATP Stats, sealing the win in 2 hours and 17 minutes.
