The talented Canadian Leylah Fernandez has reached the quarterfinals of the prestigious Lexus Nottingham Open, securing a solid victory against Spain’s Cristina Bucsa with a score of 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday.

In a match filled with tension, Fernandez successfully defended herself against nine break points, only conceding one. She capitalized on her opportunities, breaking Bucsa three times out of six chances during a contest that lasted 1 hour and 43 minutes.

This 22-year-old sensation from Laval, Quebec, has now triumphed over Bucsa three times, adding this victory to her previous wins at the Paris Olympics and the Australian Open earlier this year.

As the fifth seed in Nottingham, England, Fernandez is set to clash with Dayana Yastremska on Friday at the WTA 250 grass-court tournament. Notably, she holds a perfect 2-0 record against the 46th-ranked Ukrainian player.

Entering the tournament ranked 30th globally, Fernandez has leveled her season record to 14-14 following this latest triumph.

In related news, Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov from Richmond Hill, Ontario, joined forces to take down the third-seeded American pair of Evan King and Christian Harrison with a close score of 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 in men’s doubles quarterfinals at the Terra Wortmann Open.

The dynamic duo will face off against the second-seeded Italian team of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the semifinals scheduled for Thursday.

Additionally, Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov are preparing for their second-round singles matches on Thursday at the ATP 500 event in Halle, Germany.
