Here’s a thought that might send chills down the spine of Jannik Sinner’s adversaries as the new season approaches…

The Italian star asserts that he has significantly improved as a player by the end of 2025 compared to his performance in 2024, a year when he was crowned ATP Year-End No. 1.

After an undefeated run at last year’s Nitto ATP Finals, his recent win over the current No. 1 and fierce rival, Carlos Alcaraz, with a score of 7-6(4), 7-5 in the finals held in Turin, has Sinner feeling more confident than ever.

“Honestly, I prefer not to compare [the years]. Each has its own merits,” Sinner reflected. “Last year was incredible, and this year has been remarkable as well. Competing in four Grand Slam finals, winning here, and ending the year on such a high note is just phenomenal.”

“Above all, I genuinely believe I am a more skilled player than I was last year, and that’s what matters most. It’s all part of growth. I’ve always said and believed that with hard work and the intent to improve, the results will inevitably follow. This season certainly proved that.”

“I secured numerous victories with few losses. With each defeat, I focused on the positives and aimed to evolve as a player. I feel that process has been incredibly beneficial, and I’m absolutely thrilled with how the season turned out.”

Every Victory Counts

Despite battling through a three-month setback after clinching the Australian Open in January, Sinner captured six titles and achieved an impressive record of 58 wins and 6 losses, as reported by Infosys ATP Stats. He now shares 24 career titles with Alcaraz.

The 24-year-old concluded the year strong, securing his second consecutive Nitto ATP Finals title without losing a set and extending his unbeaten indoor record to an impressive 31 matches.

“It felt remarkable to finish the season here in Turin amidst my home fans. It’s the final match of the year, and I can’t express how emotional it was to see my team and family in the stands. I’m incredibly happy,” he said.

In the heated rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz, the latter has won four out of six matchups this year. Sinner’s recent victory has narrowed his Lexus ATP Head2Head series deficit against Alcaraz to 6-10. When asked if he could nurture a deeper friendship with his strongest competitor, Sinner offered this perspective…

“We’ve had discussions about friendship and rivalry,” Sinner shared. “In earlier times, players used to dine together since their entourages were smaller—often just one person. That led to more camaraderie and storytelling in the locker room.”

“I feel that camaraderie still exists today. You tend to form closer bonds with a select few players in the locker room. While both Carlos and I have our respective friend groups, we naturally gravitate towards those we spend more time with, including fellow Italians.”

“I also have other close friendships with players like Jack Draper and Reilly Opelka, which I cherish. However, Carlos and I share a unique dynamic regarding our on-court encounters. We maintain a solid friendship off the court and have a mutual respect for each other. Our teams also get along well, fostering a harmonious relationship.”
