Coco Gauff has become an unstoppable force on the WTA tour since kicking off the Asian swing last year in Beijing, capturing the attention of tennis legends. Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova both believe that Gauff is just getting started.
In a recent matchup at the United Cup final, Gauff showcased her prowess by defeating World No.2 Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-4, 6-4, leaving Evert in awe.
“Watching Coco dominate the forehand rallies was remarkable,” Evert remarked, as per the WTA Tour. “When it comes to that matchup, the player with the superior forehand will take the match. She’s ranked No.3 now, and I believe she’s on the verge of greatness.”
Similarly, Navratilova shares Evert’s enthusiasm, suggesting that Gauff, currently ranked No.3 and trailing top player Aryna Sabalenka by 3000 points, is poised to clinch a Grand Slam title in 2025.
“I have faith that Coco will secure a major title soon. The Australian Open might be her optimal opportunity, but she has the talent to win on any surface—be it clay, grass, or hard courts.”
The 20-year-old sensation claimed her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2023 and has dominated the competition, winning 18 of her last 20 matches since her title run commenced in Beijing.
