Just a day after enduring a tough singles defeat, Canadian star Leylah Fernandez teamed up with Ukraine’s Nadiia Kichenok for women’s doubles, but unfortunately faced another setback. They fell to the formidable Mexican-American duo of Giuliana Olmos and Desirae Krawczyk with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-4 at the Adelaide Open on Monday.
The first-round encounter at Memorial Drive Tennis Park was brisk, concluding in a mere 73 minutes.
Olmos and Krawczyk showcased remarkable defensive skills, outscoring Fernandez and Kichenok with 21 receiving points to their 11. The winning pair excelled on their serves, taking 75% of their points on first serves and an impressive 79% on second serves, while their opponents managed only 61% and 47%, respectively. Additionally, they secured nine service games, whereas Fernandez and Kichenok managed five.
Both pairs maintained a clean sheet, as neither side served an ace nor committed a double fault throughout the match.
Despite their efforts, Fernandez and Kichenok saved three out of six break points but were unable to capitalize on any opportunities against their rivals’ serve.
