Another enchanting chapter for a Canadian at the US Open is unfolding.

Felix Auger-Aliassime triumphed over Andrey Rublev with a decisive score of 7-5, 6-3, 6-4, securing his place in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium this Monday in Queens, N.Y.

This achievement marks Auger-Aliassime’s second-deepest journey in his US Open history, just shy of his remarkable semifinal run in 2021, where he faced Daniil Medvedev and fell in straight sets.

Now seeded 25th, the Montreal-born star is set to clash with eighth-seeded Australian Alex De Minaur, who breezed past Swiss wild card Leandro Riedi, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 on the same day.

Prior to this impressive streak in Flushing Meadows, the 25-year-old had not progressed beyond the second round in any Grand Slam this year.

However, he appears to have discovered his rhythm after a stunning upset against No. 3 Alexander Zverev in the third round, followed by his sweeping victory over the 15th-seeded Rublev.

After falling behind with an early break in the first set against Rublev, Auger-Aliassime quickly regained control, breaking Rublev again in the crucial 15th game to avoid a tiebreaker.

From that moment, he maintained his dominance throughout the match.

In recent years, a duo of Canadian women has made significant strides at the US Open, with Bianca Andreescu taking down Serena Williams in the 2019 final, and Leylah Fernandez reaching the championship match two years later.

In addition, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner Erin Routliffe from New Zealand clinched the women’s doubles title in 2023.

Later on Monday, this triumphant duo is set to face Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and American Nicole Melichar-Martinez in the Round of 16, while Fernandez joins forces with Venus Williams against Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova and China’s Zhang Shuai.
