In a dazzling performance at the Nitto ATP Finals, Felix Auger-Aliassime completed an impressive comeback by overpowering Alexander Zverev, securing his spot in the semi-finals.

The Canadian star dethroned two-time champion Zverev with a score of 6-4, 7-6(4), finishing second in the Bjorn Borg Group behind Jannik Sinner. After a rocky start this week with three initial set losses that nearly led to an early exit at Inalpi Arena, Auger-Aliassime bounced back with a thrilling win over Ben Shelton before defeating Zverev, entering his semi-final clash against Carlos Alcaraz brimming with confidence.

“This tournament holds immense value for players,” Auger-Aliassime stated when asked about the upcoming match against Alcaraz. “It feels like the grand finale, and considering the number of former champions, many of whom are No. 1s, making it to the final is a goal. However, I must face a great player to get there. I’ll seize any opportunity that arises.”

With his victory over Zverev marking his 50th tour-level win this season, Auger-Aliassime became just the second Canadian to reach the semi-finals of the Nitto ATP Finals, following in the footsteps of Milos Raonic in 2016. This victory also completes his dominance over Zverev in 2025, having already triumphed against him in their third-round match at the US Open, although Zverev still leads their overall head-to-head 6-4.

Against Zverev, Auger-Aliassime showcased resilience, rallying late in the first set. He saved break points at crucial moments—30/40 in both the fifth and ninth games—before seizing upon a dip in Zverev’s game in the 10th game to claim the first set. Despite Zverev fighting off three set points at 4-5, 0/40, Auger-Aliassime unleashed a spectacular cross-court forehand to take the lead.

The second set was a nail-biter, with both players grappling for consistency. Zverev, visibly frustrated on a surface where he previously lifted the trophy in 2021, frequently turned to his team for support, while Auger-Aliassime struggled to capitalize on his return opportunities.

Despite earlier setbacks with three missed break points, the Canadian maintained his composure, delivering an impressive tie-break performance. He secured consecutive minibreaks from 5/4, taking advantage of Zverev’s unforced errors to clinch the match in two hours and seven minutes.

“That first set was fantastic. Zverev had his chances, but I delivered some big serves to save them,” said Auger-Aliassime, who has climbed three spots to No. 5 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. “The first set felt solid, and the beginning of the second was promising too. I had numerous opportunities.”

“When you find yourself in those situations, it’s crucial to stay focused on the moment, even when aware of missed chances. Things got a bit tense, but I managed to hold serve, and in the tie-break, it was tight until the end.”

Auger-Aliassime is vying for his fourth ATP Tour title of 2025 in Turin, having previously claimed victory in Adelaide, Montpellier, and Brussels this season. He now leads the Tour with 85 indoor wins this decade, outpacing Jannik Sinner by five wins.
