PARIS — In a thrilling showdown, the third-seeded Italian duo of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori claimed victory over the fourth-seeded American pair, Taylor Townsend and Evan King, with a score of 6-4, 6-2, securing the prestigious mixed doubles title at the French Open on Thursday.

This triumph marks their second Grand Slam win together, following their success at the U.S. Open last year. For Errani, it added yet another accolade to her collection at Roland-Garros, where she previously won Olympic gold in women’s doubles alongside her compatriot, Jasmine Paolini.

“Let’s see if I’ll be back next year; fingers crossed!” the 38-year-old Errani, who famously finished as the runner-up in singles at the 2012 French Open, shared with the enthusiastic crowd on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Townsend, who was the mixed doubles runner-up at the U.S. Open alongside Donald Young last year, has previously celebrated two major titles in women’s doubles.

Expressing her gratitude, she thanked King for their partnership on the court.

“We’re geared up for a rematch at Wimbledon, and we’re going to give it another go!” she proclaimed enthusiastically.
