After their match, the Ymer brothers shared an emotional hug at the net, with Elias visibly moved during his post-match comments.
“Honestly, I would have been satisfied even if I lost today,” expressed Elias, currently ranked No. 243 in the PIF ATP Rankings and entering this week following an eight-match losing streak. “I rarely cry, so I’m not sure what’s going on.”
Meanwhile, veteran Marin Cilic showcased his prowess against promising young player Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, winning 7-5, 6-3. At 37 years old, Cilic is competing in Sweden for the first time in his professional career and will next take on second seed Casper Ruud, who leads their head-to-head series 3-0.
In other matches, Tomas Martin Etcheverry triumphed over Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal in a grueling contest, winning 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 6-3 after nearly three hours. Kamil Majchrzak also enjoyed success, defeating Filip Misolic 6-2, 6-2.
