MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — In a surprising turn of events, Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Miami Open due to a right shoulder injury, as confirmed by tournament officials on Sunday.
The Serbian sensation boasts an impressive track record at the Miami Open, having clinched the title six times and reached the finals eight times overall. These records are tied with the legendary Andre Agassi for the most men’s singles achievements in the tournament’s history.
Currently ranked No. 3 globally, Djokovic faced Jakub Menšík in last year’s Miami final. His triumphs span from 2007 to 2016, with an additional finals appearance in 2009.
The men’s draw for this year’s tournament is set to be unveiled on Monday.
A 24-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic competed last week at Indian Wells, making it to the fourth round in singles and the second round in doubles. Earlier this year, he reached the Australian Open final, where he was ultimately outplayed by Carlos Alcaraz.
