During media day in Melbourne on Friday, Djokovic shared insights into what makes Murray a formidable ally.

He expressed his admiration, stating that Murray is a significant source of inspiration for him.

“He has motivated countless individuals, including myself, all over the globe,” Djokovic reflected. “His unparalleled insight comes from the unique perspective that only a longtime rival could offer. We’ve faced off since we were just 12, giving him ample opportunity to analyze the evolution of my game—its strengths and weaknesses.”

“Murray’s tennis intelligence is exceptionally high, and he has showcased incredible resilience, especially post-surgery with his artificial hip—winning tournaments and dominating at the challenger level—all while embodying the true essence of what it means to be a champion.”

Djokovic emphasized how Murray’s recent experiences on the tour enhance his coaching capabilities.

“Having just transitioned from being a competitor himself, Andy is well-acquainted with the top players and the current trends in tennis,” the 37-year-old commented. “His firsthand experience equips him with valuable insights on the tour dynamics.”

The duo has dedicated 12 intense days on the practice courts, marking the nascent stage of their dynamic partnership. Djokovic appreciates the motivational impact that Murray has, noting their growing rapport.

“We’re gradually getting acquainted on the court. After eight pre-season days and the last four here in Melbourne, I can say that he brings fresh energy,” Djokovic elaborated. “We have open channels of communication—discussing various aspects of our game, and he’s working diligently to understand my approach better.”

It’s a thrilling moment for team Djokovic as the Serbian great eyes his historic 25th major title and 11th in Australia, while also targeting his 100th career title and 100th victory on Australian soil (current record: 94 wins against just nine losses).

Djokovic commended Murray for seamlessly transitioning into his coaching role.

“He has a natural ability to adapt,” said the Belgrade native. “His general knowledge, coupled with his tennis acumen, allows him to utilize timely observations and interventions. He has a keen sense of when to speak and what should be addressed.”

“With all cards laid out on the table, we share everything openly. I fully support this transparent communication model, which will help him understand my game and assist me effectively in our shared goal.”

Djokovic is set to kick off his campaign against American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy in the opening round in Melbourne, with the Australian Open commencing on Sunday, January 12.
