In an exhilarating matchup, Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo surged into the third round of the Citi Open hard court tennis tournament, overcoming Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan with a score of 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday.

As the 15th seed, Diallo enjoyed a first-round bye and showcased his skills by delivering 10 powerful aces, successfully breaking Marozsan’s serve twice out of seven opportunities.

Marozsan struggled, recording six double faults and failing to capitalize on his sole chance to break Diallo’s serve.

This victory marked Diallo’s 2-0 lead over Marozsan, with their previous encounter taking place earlier this year during a Davis Cup qualifier.

Next up for Diallo is a challenge against fourth-seeded Ben Shelton, who triumphed over wild card Mackenzie McDonald in a 6-3, 6-4 all-American duel on Tuesday.

Diallo, entering the tournament with a career-high world ranking of No. 35, is set as the 30th seed at the upcoming men’s National Bank Open in Toronto, which kicks off with qualifying rounds this Saturday.
