In a thrilling showdown at the Miami Open, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner Luisa Stefani faced a tough challenge, falling 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 against the formidable duo of Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic and Taylor Townsend from the United States in the women’s doubles semifinals.
The match was competitive right from the start, with both pairs notching three breaks each in the initial two sets. However, Siniakova and Townsend, the second seeds, displayed their prowess in the tiebreak to seize victory.
Despite the setback, Dabrowski and Stefani—seeded third in this prestigious tournament—have consistently reached at least the quarterfinals in every event this season, including a remarkable triumph at a WTA 1000 event in Dubai just last month.
This season marks a new chapter for Dabrowski, as she teams up with Stefani following a successful collaboration with Erin Routliffe from New Zealand, a partnership that yielded two U.S. Open titles and a WTA Finals championship.
