In an inspiring partnership, Coach Andy Murray has been instrumental in unlocking the full potential of Novak Djokovic.

The duo is set to continue their collaboration as Djokovic pursues further triumphs and significant accolades.

During a press conference at Indian Wells, Djokovic expressed that his performance in the Australian Open semifinals showcased some of his finest tennis since he claimed the Olympic gold medal for Serbia at the Paris Olympics last summer.

The Grand Slam legend, who regrettably withdrew from the Australian Open semifinals after sustaining a torn left leg muscle, mentioned that he and Murray will sustain their training regimen through the upcoming Roland Garros, with hopes for continued collaboration at Wimbledon.

“We had a fantastic tournament in Australia; I was pleased with how I played,” Djokovic shared with the media in Indian Wells. “It was unfortunate to exit due to injury, but in terms of performance, I think I demonstrated my best tennis in a long while—since the Olympics, in fact. I attribute much of that to the work I’ve done with Andy.”

Murray, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, took some time to evaluate their partnership after the Australian Open. Djokovic revealed that Murray spoke with his family about his availability and they both decided to continue working together for the Sunshine Double at Indian Wells and Miami.

“I was thrilled when he decided to continue for Indian Wells, Miami, and hopefully, most of the clay court season,” Djokovic said. “We’ll evaluate our plans after Miami; the aim is to go all the way to Roland Garros and possibly Wimbledon as well.

“I truly enjoy my relationship with Andy. We’re in a unique phase of getting to understand each other’s styles on the court in a new dynamic, different from our 25 years of friendship. This is a new role for him, and it’s exciting to navigate it together.

“He’s actively exploring how to excel in his role as my coach, and I’m making an effort to communicate thoroughly both on and off the court to enhance our connection.”

As Djokovic competes for his landmark 100th career title in the Sunshine Double, his sights are firmly set on claiming a record 25th Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.

In a candid discussion on Sporting Misadventures with Chris Hoy, Murray elaborated on his motivation to coach his former rival.

“I regard [Novak] as one of the greatest athletes in history. The chance to assist him as a coach was an opportunity I felt I couldn’t pass up—I might not get this chance again,” Murray shared with Chris Hoy on his podcast. “Who knows how much longer he will be playing?”
