Alex de Minaur etched his name in tennis history by triumphing over Grigor Dimitrov in stunning fashion at the Monte-Carlo tournament on Friday.
Perhaps “No Mercy” would have been a more fitting autograph.
The Australian superstar delivered a relentless performance, overwhelming the Bulgarian with a masterful 6-0, 6-0 victory, giving away only 15 points throughout a swift 45 minutes. This marks De Minaur’s first career double bagel and makes him the first Australian to reach the semifinals in Monte-Carlo since 1979.
“It’s surreal,” De Minaur expressed post-match. “With time, I’ve figured out how to leverage my strengths on this surface to be a tougher competitor.”
De Minaur’s flawless execution has positioned him as the first player in Masters 1000 history to earn a double bagel victory in a quarterfinal match or later.
1 – Alex de Minaur is the inaugural player since the introduction of the format in 1990 to clinch an ATP Masters 1000 match from the quarter-finals onward with a 6-0 6-0 scoreline. Absolutely ruthless.#RolexMonteCarloMasters | @ROLEXMCMASTERS @atptour

Dimitrov struggled, managing to win a mere 8 of 32 serve points and only seven return points, falling to 2-4 in his head-to-head against De Minaur. The seasoned 33-year-old aimed to make history as the sixth oldest semifinalist in Monte-Carlo.
However, he isn’t alone in facing challenges against the 10th-ranked De Minaur, who has surrendered only seven games in his last six sets played in Monte-Carlo.

Leading all ATP players with 20 victories in 2025, De Minaur is set to face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals.
