Carlos Alcaraz has become the latest standout player to skip the trip to Toronto.

On Monday, Tennis Canada announced Alcaraz’s withdrawal from the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.

This decision follows Sunday’s revelation that world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and the legendary 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will also be missing the event in Canada.

“I’m genuinely disappointed to miss the National Bank Open in Toronto,” Alcaraz expressed in a statement from Tennis Canada. “I put in considerable effort to prepare, as it’s a tournament I cherish, but it’s just too soon post-Wimbledon for my recovery. I wish the event great success and I’m eager to return to the Canadian courts next year.”

Alcaraz reached the Wimbledon final last Sunday, only to fall in four sets to Sinner.

Currently, the 22-year-old holds the No. 2 spot in the ATP rankings, having achieved his best performance at the National Bank Open in 2023, advancing to the quarterfinals before being edged out by American Tommy Paul.

Alongside Alcaraz, both Sinner and Djokovic, other notable withdrawals in recent days include Jack Draper, Sebastian Korda, Hubert Hurkacz, and Jordan Thompson.

This year’s National Bank Open boasts a revamped 12-day, 96-player format.

The women’s competition will take place alongside the men’s tournament in Montreal.
