Carlos Alcaraz has officially pulled out of Spain’s much-anticipated Davis Cup Final 8 quarter-final against Czechia, scheduled for Thursday, November 20, in Bologna, due to a right hamstring strain.

The top-ranked player in the PIF ATP Rankings, who had a tough battle against Jannik Sinner in the Nitto ATP Finals title match, required a medical timeout during that match to get his leg treated. Although Alcaraz arrived in Italy on Monday, after undergoing medical evaluations, he opted to withdraw and head back home.

“I’m incredibly saddened to announce that I won’t be able to represent Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna,” Alcaraz shared on X Tuesday morning. “I have edema in my right hamstring, and the medical advice is clear: do not compete. Competing for Spain means the world to me, and I was eager to contribute to our pursuit of the Salad Bowl [trophy]. I’m going back with a heavy heart…”

The Spanish team, under the guidance of captain David Ferrer, includes Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, and Pablo Carreno Busta. They are scheduled to compete against Czechia — led by Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik — on Thursday at 10 a.m. CET, with the winner progressing to face either Argentina or Germany in the semi-finals.

Alcaraz concludes his 2025 season with a record-setting 71 wins and eight titles, as reported by the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He split the four Grand Slam titles with Sinner and leads their overall matchup 10-6, having triumphed in four of their six final encounters this year.
