On Thursday, Carlos Alcaraz secured the ATP Year-End No. 1 title presented by PIF after a thrilling victory over Lorenzo Musetti, marking an impressive 3-0 run at the Nitto ATP Finals.

With fierce competition from fellow athlete Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz emerged undefeated from the group stage, solidifying his title as year-end No. 1 once again.

“Honestly, this means everything to me. The year-end No. 1 is always a target,” shared Alcaraz. “At the start of the year, it felt like No. 1 was a distant dream, with Jannik winning almost every tournament. But by the middle of the season, I set my sights on it, believing it was achievable. I consistently delivered strong performances to keep pace with Jannik.”

“In the last few tournaments, I fought hard with Jannik for this spot, and finally, I got it. This victory is truly significant for me.”

This year has been nothing short of extraordinary for the 22-year-old star, who made history in 2022 as the youngest year-end No. 1 since 1973. He is now only the second active player, alongside Novak Djokovic, to achieve multiple year-end No. 1 finishes.

Alcaraz kicked off his season by reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, aiming to capture the only Grand Slam title missing from his collection. Subsequently, he displayed exceptional dominance on the ATP Tour.

The World No. 1 has claimed a remarkable eight titles in 2025, which includes triumphs at two Grand Slams (Roland Garros and US Open), three ATP Masters 1000 events (Monte-Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati), and three ATP 500 tournaments (Rotterdam, Queen’s Club, and Tokyo). This impressive haul marks his best season ever.

Alcaraz’s victories at Roland Garros and the US Open place him among the elite, making him the second-youngest player in the Open Era to secure six Grand Slam titles, just behind Bjorn Borg, who achieved this at the same age.

His unforgettable win at Roland Garros saw him save three championship points against Sinner in the final—a match that lasted five hours and 29 minutes, setting a new record for the tournament. Alcaraz also became the first player since 2004 to overturn a two-set deficit in a Grand Slam final at this event.

By clinching the US Open title with only one set lost, Alcaraz became the youngest of four men to have won multiple Grand Slam titles on clay, grass, and hard courts, joining the ranks of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Mats Wilander.

Consistency has been Alcaraz’s hallmark in 2025, where he reached the finals of nine consecutive tournaments from the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters in April to the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo in September.

During this run, he maintained a stunning 17-match winning streak in ATP Masters 1000 events, putting him in legendary company with Djokovic, Roger Federer, Nadal, and Pete Sampras for extended winning streaks at this level.

The Murcia native stands alongside legends Borg, Stefan Edberg, and Lleyton Hewitt with two ATP Year-End No. 1 titles. He is now the 11th player to reach this prestigious milestone more than once.

ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi remarked: “Ending the season as the world’s No. 1 player is a remarkable accomplishment—something that only 19 players have achieved in over 50 years of ATP history. Achieving this twice by age 22 makes it even more remarkable. It showcases Carlos’ extraordinary talent, relentless will to improve, and determination to face the best in the game. He should take immense pride in his achievements, and we look forward to watching him continue to inspire fans globally.”

Having completed the group stage with an unblemished record at the Nitto ATP Finals, Alcaraz has dominated the Jimmy Connors Group, setting up a semi-final clash against either Alexander Zverev or Felix Auger-Aliassime on Saturday. He stands just two victories away from claiming the season finale title for the first time.
