Montreal’s own Félix Auger-Aliassime and Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski are set to come together once again after clinching the mixed doubles bronze medal for Canada at the Paris Olympics.

These talented athletes were among the recently revealed entries for the revamped U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament happening next month, which boasts a staggering $1 million prize for the victorious team.

Other exciting pairings include Venus Williams teaming up with Reilly Opelka, and Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova joining forces with Holger Rune.

The latest entry list from the U.S. Tennis Association features a total of 25 teams, but only 16 will compete in the exciting showdown scheduled for Aug. 19-20—offering a grand prize of $1 million for the winners.

With the entry deadline just a week away, the eight duos with the highest combined singles rankings will officially secure their spots in this thrilling event.

The USTA will also extend wild-card invitations to eight additional teams to complete the lineup.

In a change of pace, the mixed doubles competition will now take place the week preceding the start of the singles matchups. Singles action kicks off on Aug. 24.

Along with the dynamic pairing of Williams—a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, making her return after more than a year—and Opelka, new pairings announced include the engaged duo Katie Boulter and Alex De Minaur; Donna Vekic with Hubert Hurkacz; Karolina Muchova alongside Andrey Rublev; Iva Jovic and Jenson Brooksby; Demi Schuurs with Tallon Griekspoor; Katerina Siniakova and Marcelo Arevalo; Desirae Krawczyk and Evan King; plus Su-Wei Hsieh and Jan Zielinski.

The initial list of hopeful participants released last month featured a star-studded lineup that included Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz; Emma Navarro with Jannik Sinner; Iga Swiatek paired with Casper Ruud; Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti; Elena Rybakina joining forces with Taylor Fritz; Belinda Bencic alongside Alexander Zverev; Mirra Andreeva with Daniil Medvedev; Madison Keys with Frances Tiafoe; Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul; Aryna Sabalenka with Grigor Dimitrov; Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic; Naomi Osaka alongside Nick Kyrgios; Taylor Townsend with Ben Shelton; and last year’s U.S. Open mixed doubles champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

This impressive lineup features a remarkable shift from the traditional mix of doubles specialists typically found in Grand Slam mixed doubles events. Some have voiced concerns regarding this transformation, with Errani and Vavassori labeling the new format a “pseudo-exhibition aimed solely at entertainment” that may exclude dedicated doubles competitors.
