Cameron Norrie navigated a challenging match against local favorite Kyrian Jacquet at the Moselle Open on Thursday. Having reached the finals in Metz last year, Norrie fought back to win 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, securing his place in the semifinals for the second time this season.

The last remaining seed in the ATP 250 tournament, Norrie showcased his resilience by clinching the last 11 points of a contest that lasted two hours and 25 minutes.

“He caught me off guard several times,” Norrie commented on Jacquet, the third French player he has defeated this week. “He mixed his game well, blending slices with aggressive shots. His serve is outstanding.”

“French players possess such diverse skills, and I admired his competitive spirit. He could have easily won the match in the second set, but I held my ground.”

It All Adds Up

While Jacquet struck an impressive 48 winners—half of them off his forehand—Norrie’s timing was impeccable when it mattered most, earning him a spot in the semifinals. He’ll face Lorenzo Sonego next, who triumphed over Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 7-6(6). Sonego has a history in Metz, having won the title in 2022.

Norrie is on the hunt for his sixth title at the tour level, seeking his first since his victory over Carlos Alcaraz in Rio de Janeiro back in 2023.

In other quarter-final news, rising star Learner Tien battled back to defeat Matteo Berrettini 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in a tightly contested match that lasted one hour and 44 minutes.

In their first Lexus ATP Head2Head encounter, the 19-year-old Tien successfully converted all three of his break points, according to Infosys ATP Stats. This victory makes Tien the youngest American man to achieve 30 wins in a single season since Andy Roddick in 2002, and he becomes the fourth American to reach this milestone this year. He also moved up four spots to No. 34 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.

Tien will take on lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko for a chance to advance to the final. Sachko achieved his spot by defeating Clement Tabur 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
