On a remarkable Sunday afternoon at the Miami Open presented by Itau, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori crowned their journey with a coveted ATP Masters 1000 trophy.
The seventh-seeded pair dominated in their match against the formidable duo of Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten, winning decisively with a score of 6-4, 6-2, to capture their most significant title to date. Displaying precision and confidence despite the South Florida humidity, Bolelli and Vavassori broke serve in the first game of both sets, sealing the championship in just 73 minutes.
Since forming a regular partnership in 2024, Bolelli and Vavassori have consistently surprised on the Tour. With six ATP 500 titles and two qualifications for the Nitto ATP Finals under their belt, this was their long-awaited debut in a Masters 1000 final.
That moment arrived with style. The Italian pair remained unfazed as fourth seeds Heliovaara and Patten struggled to maintain their winning form from the earlier rounds, failing to break through Bolelli and Vavassori’s solid serving. The Italians saved all three break points they faced and capitalized on three out of nine break opportunities, as highlighted by Infosys ATP Stats.
With this significant victory, the 40-year-old Bolelli, who previously claimed a Grand Slam title at the 2015 Australian Open alongside Fabio Fognini, made history by becoming the first Italian man to achieve 20 tour-level doubles titles in the Open Era (since 1968).
