Bianca Andreescu is steadily paving her way back to prominence in the competitive landscape of the WTA Tour.

The Canadian star powered through to the finals of the Austin 125 tournament, triumphing over Spain’s Paula Badosa with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on Friday in Texas.

Currently ranked No. 165 due to a series of injury setbacks, Andreescu has primarily participated in smaller events this year to reclaim her spot in larger tournaments.

The 125 events represent the entry-level tier of professional tournaments.

The 25-year-old received a wild card for the BNP Paribas Masters in Indian Wells, California last week, though she faced an early exit in the first round.

Andreescu once reached the pinnacle of tennis, achieving a No. 4 ranking in 2019 when she captured the U.S. Open along with two additional titles.

Hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, she is poised to break into the top 150 of next week’s rankings.

On the other hand, Badosa, a former world No. 2, has slipped to No. 106.

In the Austin final on Saturday, Andreescu will face Thailand’s Lanlala Tararudee, currently ranked No. 124 in the world.
