Bianca Andreescu’s journey has been nothing short of challenging. The talented Canadian tennis star has faced a decline in her ranking year after year, battling through numerous injuries along the way.
She endured a lengthy nine-month hiatus due to a serious back injury, making her long-awaited comeback in 2024 during the French Open. However, this season has seen her participate in just a limited number of tournaments.
Andreescu has openly shared her difficulty in reclaiming the remarkable form she showcased in 2019 when she clinched victory at the U.S. Open and the Rogers Cup, now renamed the National Bank Open.
She confided, “I found myself not wanting to be on the court. Striking a forehand felt indifferent to me; all I wanted was to leave the court as quickly as possible.” She added, “While I never gave up, deep down, I realized winning felt out of reach. It wasn’t just my game that was off—I was a mess mentally, forever comparing myself to my 2019 self, nostalgically fixated on the past.”
This year, the proud athlete from Mississauga, Ontario, has competed in 21 matches, achieving an 11-10 record without claiming any singles titles. Overall, she holds an impressive career record of 200-101 on the WTA Tour.
Having already withdrawn from the Billie Jean King Cup, Andreescu is now setting her sights on the opportunities that 2025 may bring.
Despite the hurdles, Andreescu remains resilient, drawing strength from her passion for the sport and her commitment to her family and country. “There was a period when I lost my love for tennis, but I’ve rediscovered it,” she reflected. “I’ve realized that my deep-rooted affection for tennis will always be there, no matter the circumstances. It has given me so much. Each time I step onto the court, even after all I’ve been through, I can still feel a flicker of that magic. I genuinely believe that anything is achievable.”
