NEW YORK — In a stunning turn of events, Amanda Anisimova triumphed over Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-4, 6-3 in the US Open quarterfinals on Wednesday. This victory comes just weeks after suffering a crushing defeat to the six-time Grand Slam champion in the Wimbledon final, where she faced a 6-0, 6-0 rout.

The 24-year-old Anisimova, seeded No. 8 and hailing from New Jersey while having grown up in Florida, has now advanced to her third major semifinal, marking her first at the iconic Flushing Meadows.

Exhibiting powerful strokes and remarkable composure in Arthur Ashe Stadium, Anisimova’s performance against the No. 2 ranked Swiatek—who claimed the US Open title in 2022—was a breathtaking departure from their previous encounter at the All England Club.

During that title match, which lasted a mere 57 minutes, Anisimova was only able to collect 24 points—a figure she surpassed midway through the first set this time around. The emotional toll was evident as she wept during her runner-up speech at Wimbledon.

Looking ahead to Thursday, Anisimova aims to secure a spot in her second consecutive major final, with her next challenge being either Naomi Osaka or Karolina Muchova in the semifinals.
