DOHA, Qatar — Amanda Anisimova triumphed at the Qatar Open on Saturday, clinching her third career title and her first since the year 2022.

In a thrilling final disrupted by rain, Anisimova defeated former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko with a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Following a second rain break, Anisimova seized victory by winning the final three games, making her the first American to capture the Doha title since the legendary Monica Seles in 2002.

“It was definitely a stressful match, especially when the rain came at 3-3,” Anisimova commented. “I focused on maintaining my concentration. The weather was challenging for both of us. That game was crucial, and I’m thrilled it turned in my favor.”

Currently ranked 41st, Anisimova is on the brink of breaking into the top 20.

Ostapenko, ranked 37th and hailing from Latvia, reached her 17th final but fell short of claiming her ninth singles title, struggling with 10 double faults throughout the match.
