Indian Wells, California – Taylor Fritz aims to be at the forefront of the rising wave in American men’s tennis, recognizing that there’s still a journey ahead.

With 10 American players currently in the ATP Top 10, Fritz stands out as the sole competitor with both a Grand Slam final and a Masters 1000 victory under his belt.

“It’s exciting to see us contributing to the growth of tennis,” he remarked this week at Indian Wells. “I believe we can enhance the tennis culture here in the U.S. That’s been a goal of mine throughout my career. The women have long been champions of this movement, and it’s time for the men to step it up.”

Having clinched the BNP Paribas Open title in 2022, Fritz is set to challenge Italy’s Matteo Gigante in the second round at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden this Saturday.

“For us to truly energize the sport, we need an American man to capture a major title,” Fritz emphasized. “The women have made significant strides in this area, even in the absence of Serena Williams.”

“I believe it will take a slam victory to ignite a surge of young fans in men’s tennis,” he added. “We’re making progress, but we need that breakthrough moment.”

To draw in new audiences, Fritz advocates for adopting strategies like those at the Australian Open. He believes tournaments should focus on creating an engaging atmosphere, incorporating fun experiences beyond the sport itself.

“The sport needs to evolve,” Fritz remarked. “It’s essential to connect with younger audiences, and the tournament experience plays a critical role in that. Events should offer a variety of activities that make it enjoyable, even for those who are not tennis aficionados.”

“The Australian Open excels at this – it’s not merely about the matches; it’s about having an unforgettable experience. While spectators watch tennis, they can also indulge in numerous activities.”

“Events like this provide a social dimension that attracts young fans, showcasing how vibrant and enjoyable tennis can be. Experiencing matches live takes appreciation to a new level.”
