Alexander Blockx Climbs to a Career-High No. 71 in the PIF ATP Rankings!

This year, Alexander Blockx’s steady ascent on the ATP Tour is gaining remarkable momentum. The 21-year-old Belgian is transforming his promise into tangible results at the highest levels.
Having made a memorable debut at the Next Gen ATP Finals last year by reaching the title match, Blockx has firmly established himself as one of the sport’s most exhilarating young talents. Following a breakthrough to the third round at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, he has now reached a new peak at No. 71 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
“It feels more normal now because I’m higher up in the rankings,” Blockx remarked in a pre-tournament chat with ATP Media at the BMW Open by Bitpanda. “I’m not at 200 or 300 anymore. I’ve competed in major tournaments… While I haven’t secured many wins against the top players yet, my confidence is definitely building step by step, and I feel more assured in facing them. That’s the key.”
“When I started with Futures, I lacked that confidence. It developed as I moved to Challengers, where I faced early exits. But gradually I progressed. With ATP events, I also had early departures, but now I’m starting to rack up victories at this tier, so it’s wonderful to see how far I’ve come.”
A former junior standout, Blockx claimed the boys’ singles title at the Australian Open in 2023, positioning him as one of Belgium’s brightest hopes. Over the last two seasons, he has clinched four ATP Challenger titles, gaining traction on the ATP Tour, where he celebrated his first victory in Cincinnati in 2025.
Renowned for his precise ball striking and poise under pressure, Blockx’s evolution was evident in Monte-Carlo last week. He achieved his first tour-level victories on clay, triumphing over Top 50 players Denis Shapovalov and Flavio Cobolli en route to the third round.

Following this impressive run, Blockx received a wild card to enter the main draw in Munich, marking his ATP 500 debut. He faces local favorite Yannick Hanfmann—who has bested him in their only prior encounter—providing another chance for the Belgian to gauge his skills against seasoned competitors.
“I’m incredibly excited!” Blockx expressed. “It was an unexpected opportunity, a spontaneous wild card due to my strong performance in Monte-Carlo, where I achieved my best result in an ATP tournament. Overall, I believe I’ve had a solid year, which justifies receiving the wild card.”
“It’s nice to know the tournament values my participation. This being my first ATP 500 tournament makes it even more special, especially to enter straight from the main draw. Honestly, I’m just thrilled to be here!”
