Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu has moved into the semifinals of the clay-court WTA 125 Cali Open, showcasing her talent on Thursday.
The eighth-seeded player hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, triumphed over Argentina’s Luisina Giovannini with an impressive score of 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
In this decisive win, Andreescu successfully converted five out of 14 break-point chances.
At 26 years old, she is fresh off a remarkable tournament win in Mexico, where she delivered a stunning upset against the top-seeded Tatjana Maria from Germany in the final.
Next, she is set to compete against the winner of a quarterfinal match between top-seeded Leolia Jeanjean and Alice Tubello, both representing France.
Andreescu’s excellent performance has resulted in a jump of 20 places in the latest WTA rankings, landing her at No. 109, and she is on track to re-enter the top 100 if she makes it to Saturday’s final in Cali.
