PARIS — Carlos Alcaraz has officially made his way into the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters after his opponent, Matteo Berrettini, had to withdraw from their highly anticipated third-round match on Thursday due to an arm injury.

The powerful Italian did not specify which arm was affected, but he shared on an Instagram post that he had been experiencing discomfort for several days.

As the second seed, Alcaraz is set to face either sixth-seeded Arthur Fils or No. 11 Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. Fritz, who still has a glimmer of hope for qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin, faced Fils later on Thursday at the Plenitude Arena.

In other action, No. 12 seed Tommy Paul triumphed over Quentin Halys with a score of 7-6 (3), 6-4 and may compete against fellow American Ben Shelton next. The No. 3 seed was scheduled to battle Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech later that same day.
