Denis Shapovalov from Canada has been eliminated from the Paris Masters.
The talented player hailing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, had to withdraw during his opening match against Russian competitor Karen Khachanov on Monday.
He was leading with scores of 3-6, 7-6 (6), 4-1 when he made the difficult decision to retire from the match.
It appeared that Shapovalov was suffering from an injury to his leg or groin.
Despite the setback, he recorded eight aces, committed five double faults, and successfully converted two out of three break points.
Looking ahead, Shapovalov will represent Canada in the upcoming eight-nation Davis Cup knockout tournament, kicking off against Czechia on November 24 in Bologna, Italy.
