VIENNA — In a spectacular showdown, the seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Alex de Minaur with a score of 6-1, 6-4, clinching the Vienna Open title this past Sunday and extending his winning streak against the Australian to seven consecutive encounters.

Alcaraz has successfully defeated de Minaur across various surfaces, including grass, clay, and both indoor and outdoor hard courts.

The Spaniard showcased his signature flair in this latest contest.

In a brilliant display of skill, Alcaraz coaxed his opponent towards the net with a sliced backhand drop shot. Though de Minaur managed to retrieve it, Alcaraz executed a deft lob with a backhand. When the Australian volleyed it back near the net, Alcaraz struck a precise cross-court forehand that just kissed the line.

Radiating joy, the second-seeded Spaniard flashed a wide grin after securing his fourth title of the year—adding to his illustrious collection that includes the Australian Open for a coveted career Grand Slam—and marking his impressive 28th career title.

“I aimed to be aggressive and signal to him that if he wants to take the win, he needs to elevate his game—play better, hit harder, and outsmart me,” Alcaraz expressed. “I’m thrilled that I found my rhythm and played exceptionally well. This week has been truly emotional and remarkable for me.”

After a season troubled by injuries and fatigue, Alcaraz is gradually returning to peak fitness.

Meanwhile, the fifth-seeded de Minaur sought to capture his second title of the year.

He reached the final of the ATP 500 event following a semifinal victory over Alexander Zverev, who is set to ascend to the top of the rankings on Monday. Alcaraz overcame Daniil Medvedev in the other semifinal.
