An ex (and potentially future) Toronto Raptor was seen at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.
Kawhi Leonard graced Toronto with his presence on Tuesday night, witnessing an electrifying quarterfinal match between Naomi Osaka and Elena Rybakina during the Masters 1000 event.
This marks Leonard’s first visit to Toronto since a proposed trade from the Los Angeles Clippers was temporarily halted in early July. The pause arose amid an investigation into allegations that the Clippers attempted to sidestep the salary cap during negotiations for Leonard’s latest contract extension in 2024.
Once finalized, the trade is set to bring Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, along with two first-round picks and two second-round picks back to the Clippers in exchange for Leonard.
“In regard to our proposed trade for Kawhi Leonard with the LA Clippers, the NBA league office has notified us that due to the ongoing investigation involving the Clippers, we would bear the risk of any possible repercussions from the investigation affecting Kawhi,” the Raptors stated in a press release on July 10. “Given these circumstances, we will hold off until the inquiry is concluded.”
“The Raptors are eager to welcome Kawhi back to Toronto and anticipate a prompt resolution for our players, our organization, and our devoted fans.”
Leonard was also spotted in Toronto on July 7, attending Kyle Lowry’s retirement ceremony as a special guest of the Raptors.
