The Round of 16 is set to begin this Saturday at the National Bank Open, proudly presented by Rogers.
An electric atmosphere surrounds the women’s draw in Toronto, where tennis legends are ready to dazzle the crowd. Although the men’s draw has seen its fair share of surprises, Montreal still promises thrilling encounters.
Check out these key highlights to watch for as the weekend kicks off.
Star-studded women’s showdowns
On Saturday, six out of eight competing women are ranked in the top 10. The standout clash is between Poland’s Iga Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion and currently ranked No. 7, against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, ranked No. 10.
Another high-stakes battle features Elina Svitolina from Ukraine (No. 9) going head-to-head with American Amanda Anisimova (No. 8). World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka also aims for victory in her match against fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (No. 16).
Norrie’s quest for continued success
Cameron Norrie has been a part of the men’s draw’s thrilling upset saga after defeating third-ranked Alex de Minaur. Now unranked, Norrie seeks his fourth win at the NBO against France’s No. 18 Arthur Fils. The 30-year-old Brit, who faced injury challenges in recent years, was once ranked No. 8 in the world and reached Wimbledon’s semifinals in 2022.
While the Canadian men have faced a tough NBO, local favorites Alexis Galarneau and Duncan Chan will strive to ignite support in Montreal as they take on France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Germany’s Kevin Krawietz in doubles. Ranked eighth in the draw, the wild-card Canadians have a challenging task ahead.
