Tennis fans in Toronto will be left wanting tonight.
The much-anticipated evening session of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers has been called off due to inclement weather.
This session was set to feature an exciting matchup between Canada’s own Bianca Andreescu and Czech player Nikola Bartunkova. Although the players stepped onto the court around 7 p.m. ET, they had to retreat to the locker rooms without even starting a point. Fans can look forward to this clash being rescheduled for Monday.
Similarly, Cadence Brace from Oakville, Ontario, will now face McCartney Kessler of the U.S. on Monday instead of tonight.
Meanwhile, a few wild-card hopefuls took advantage of the brief interlude in the rain and made their mark on home soil.
Toronto’s Katherine Sebov secured a victory against Japanese qualifier Aoi Ito with a score of 6-3, 6-4, while Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro triumphed over Ariana Arseneault from Richmond Hill, Ontario, winning 6-2, 6-4.
On Sunday, seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams also took to the court, but unfortunately fell to Kamilla Rakhimova from Uzbekistan, with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
In Montreal, rain wreaked havoc on the men’s matches, with only two out of fourteen matches being completed before the decision was made to cancel the day’s play.
