A host of well-known players will be vying for coveted main-draw positions at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers this Saturday in the vibrant cities of Toronto and Montreal.
Among the standout competitors in the qualifying rounds for the women’s event in Toronto are 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and 2017 US Open victor Sloane Stephens, both hailing from the United States.
Stephens is set to clash with fellow American Katie Volynets, while Kenin will take on Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini.
Joining the fray is China’s Zheng Qinwen, the 2024 Australian Open runner-up, alongside 2025 French Open semifinalist Lois Boisson. Canadian talents Ana Grubor, Isabella Marton, and Avery Alexander are also making their mark in the qualifying rounds.
On the men’s side, 2023 Australian Open finalist and 2021 French Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece stands as the top seed for the qualifiers in Montreal. His opponent will be announced soon.
Australian Alexei Popyrin, the 2024 National Bank Open champion, faces countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis, while Japan’s Kei Nishikori, the 2014 US Open runner-up, meets Michael Zheng, a two-time NCAA champion from the U.S. who had a solid run to the third round at Wimbledon this year.
Canadian players Duncan Chan and Justin Boulais will also be competing in the qualifiers.
The victors of the 16 qualifying matches in both Toronto and Montreal will earn their places in the main draw, which kicks off this Sunday.
