In an exhilarating showdown, 22-year-old American sensation Coco Gauff triumphed over Switzerland’s 29-year-old Belinda Bencic in a thrilling match at Wimbledon, securing her spot in the quarterfinals. Gauff’s final score was 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, taking place on the prestigious No. 1 Court after a gripping 2-hour-and-18-minute battle.

This victory propels the No. 7 seed into the coveted last eight at the All England Club as she chases her third Grand Slam singles title.

Bencic, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon last year, fiercely challenged Gauff throughout the match with her high-octane play. However, Gauff’s remarkable athleticism, explosive power, and ability to elevate her game in critical moments were the keys to her success.

Gauff started strong, claiming the first three games, yet faced challenges with 6 double faults and 14 forehand errors in the opening set. Bencic regained her composure, racking up only 10 unforced errors and 4 winners.

In the second set, Gauff rallied, breaking Bencic in the fourth game and sealing the set at 5-3 with an exquisite drop shot-lob combo.

Stepping into the final set, Gauff elevated her game, breaking Bencic early and again in the fifth game. She displayed confident serving and composed baseline rallies, finishing the match just before Wimbledon’s 11 pm curfew with a spectacular serve that sealed her victory.

In total, Gauff delivered 34 winners, 4 aces, and 9 double faults. She successfully won 69 percent of her first-serve points and managed to convert 5 out of 12 break points.

Bencic, now a seasoned 10th-time Wimbledon participant, aimed for a repeat of her semifinal success but found Gauff too formidable in the match’s climax, with the young American showcasing her speed and controlled aggression.

In her post-match remarks, Gauff reflected, “This was, I believe, a very high-quality match from both sides. Honestly, it was a thriller. I feel this was my best match of the tournament and possibly one of my finest on grass.”

When pressed about the time constraints, Gauff replied candidly, “I was acutely aware of the clock throughout the match. It was on my mind during our first set. I didn’t realize once we started that, regardless of how long it took, we could finish. It’s good to know I don’t have to rush in future matches.”
