LONDON — The Princess of Wales, Kate, delighted tennis enthusiasts as she engaged with fans in Wimbledon’s iconic Queue and took a seat alongside Andy Murray, passionately supporting British competitors at the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam.
Having revealed her cancer was in remission earlier last year, Kate proudly serves as the patron of the All England Club.
“Upon her arrival, Her Royal Highness made a special stop at The Queue, mingling with fans who had lined up since dawn, alongside the dedicated honorary stewards of the AELTC, who graciously volunteer each year to ensure a warm welcome for attendees at the Championships,” shared Kensington Palace in a statement on Thursday.
Wimbledon reserves a limited number of tickets for same-day purchase, prompting eager fans to camp out in Wimbledon Park the night before in anticipation of securing their spot each day.
Kate, who also lent a hand at a Wimbledon ticket office, connected with children from the Shine Camera Club, a local initiative aimed at uplifting kids from underprivileged backgrounds.
As the crowds cheered, Kate made her way past the famed “Henman Hill” to witness a match on Court 18, where British player Arthur Fery was competing against Otto Virtanen. There, she received a warm welcome from All England Club chair Deborah Jevans and board member Tim Henman, a former Wimbledon semifinalist and the iconic namesake of the grassy area overlooking No. 1 Court.
Kate enjoyed a glimpse of the match, where Fery triumphed 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-3, before attending Katie Swan’s match against Madison Keys at No. 1 Court, sitting beside Murray, the first British man to claim the Wimbledon singles title in 77 years back in 2013. Unfortunately, Swan fell 6-1, 6-4.
Last year, Kate graced Centre Court on consecutive days to award the winners’ trophies to singles champions Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. She also offered comforting words to women’s runner-up Amanda Anisimova following a tough 6-0, 6-0 defeat against Swiatek.
In 2024, despite her ongoing recovery from cancer, Kate was present to witness Carlos Alcaraz clinch victory over Novak Djokovic in an exhilarating match, although she missed the women’s final.
