Today, the vibrant 3 Court at Wimbledon erupted with a sea of color and exuberance.
In particular, the dominant hue was yellow—fans clad in Brazilian jerseys echoed chants of “Jo-ão Fon-se-ca! Jo-ão Fon-se-ca!”
Fonseca delivered a thrilling performance, triumphing over Dutch player Jesper de Jong in straight sets: 6–1, 7–5, 6–4.

The 19-year-old prodigy dazzled with 38 winners, unleashed 12 aces, and made just three double faults. His serve was impressive, with 76% success on first serves and 54% on second serves. Fonseca exhibited dominance with his powerful forehand, producing 15 winners from that side of the court.
During his post-match press conference, Fonseca expressed, “It was a solid match today. I felt really good out there—one of my best performances on grass. My movement was on point.”
“Serve and return were working well, and I made good transitions to the net. My mindset was strong from the outset, applying pressure on Jesper, which felt great.” He also emphasized the necessity of daring play on grass.
“You have to stay focused and be bold in your movements. Don’t hold back when it comes to sliding or making your moves. You need to be in tune with the court, with your movements.
“Courage is essential because if you hesitate, the ball can catch you off guard, leading to unexpected misses. Always be courageous in your shot-making.
“Grass is a unique surface; it offers fewer chances to break your opponent, and in turn, they have less opportunity to break you. It’s a fast-paced game, so you must remain laser-focused at all times.”
Fonseca was queried about the vibrant patches of yellow, green, and blue in the crowd, along with the chanting and singing.
“Absolutely,” he replied. “Competing today on Court 3 with a strong Brazilian presence was incredible. The vibe was electric; the atmosphere was simply amazing.
“I’m thrilled to see the Brazilians showing their support today. It’s wonderful to have them here, and I hope they’ll back me in the third round as well.”
