Venus Williams is making her highly anticipated return to Toronto.
The iconic seven-time Grand Slam champion has been granted a wild card entry into the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, as confirmed by Tennis Canada in a recent announcement.
At 46, Williams has had a limited singles presence this season and will be making her 13th appearance in Canada. Her most notable achievement came in 2014 when she reached the finals after a stunning semifinal victory over her sister, Serena.
“I am absolutely delighted to return to Toronto. This city and the tournament hold a special place in my heart,” Venus Williams expressed in a statement.
“The National Bank Open has been a key part of my journey since I received one of my first wild cards here at the age of 15. It feels amazing to come back to a venue filled with cherished memories, and I’m eager to compete once again in front of Toronto’s incredible tennis enthusiasts.”
The WTA Tour event still has seven wild card entries available to be announced.
