Leylah Fernandez has returned to her winning ways!
The Canadian star broke a frustrating three-match singles losing streak with a thrilling 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 victory over Great Britain’s Katie Boulter in the opening round of the Bad Homburg Open in Germany this Sunday.
This match provided a measure of revenge for Fernandez, as Boulter had previously triumphed over her in a nail-biting three-set encounter earlier this month at Queen’s Club.
Lasting three hours and 12 minutes, the match saw Fernandez bravely fend off 19 out of 24 break-point opportunities presented by Boulter.
The Bad Homburg Open is an essential grass-court preparation ahead of Wimbledon next week.
Next up, Fernandez will take on the winner of the match between No. 8 seed Iva Jovic from the U.S. and Wang Xinyu from China.
