Auger-Aliassime Loses to Tiafoe in Halle Quarterfinals Tiebreaker

HALLE, Germany — Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime has been eliminated from the Terra Wortmann Open, falling to Frances Tiafoe of the United States with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (12) in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Auger-Aliassime, the tournament’s second seed, put up a fierce fight, saving four match points in a grueling third-set tiebreak before Tiafoe managed to convert his fifth opportunity to advance to the semifinals.

The 25-year-old from Montreal delivered an impressive performance, recording 25 aces while facing three match points against him in the intense two-hour and 32-minute match.

Currently ranked 26th in the world, Tiafoe fired off five aces and successfully defended against 7 out of 9 breakpoints, while world No. 4 Auger-Aliassime saved 3 out of 5.

In this tightly contested battle, both players ended up winning exactly 105 points.

Tiafoe is set to face German wild-card Daniel Altmaier in the upcoming semifinals.
