In an impressive display, Canada’s Leylah Fernandez and Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva soared into the doubles quarterfinals at the Nottingham Open, decisively defeating Taiwan’s Wu Fang-Hsien and Japan’s Eri Hozumi with a convincing score of 6-0, 6-2 on Wednesday.

The dynamic duo showcased their exceptional serving skills, clinching 81% of their first-serve points and 64% on second serves, proving their dominance throughout the match.

They expertly navigated the pressure, saving both break points they encountered while capitalizing on five of their seven break point opportunities.

Next up, Fernandez and Starodubtseva are set to challenge another Taiwanese-Japanese pair in the quarterfinals of this WTA 250 grass-court event, facing the second seeds, Chan Hao-ching and Shuko Aoyama.

Hailing from Laval, Que., Fernandez may have faced challenges in singles this year, but her doubles performance on grass has been nothing short of encouraging.

Last week, she partnered with Germany’s Laura Siegemund, making it to the finals of the HSBC Championships.
