Alexander Zverev’s quest for a Grand Slam title has finally reached a triumphant conclusion.

The 29-year-old German star has clinched a major trophy, triumphing over Flavio Cobolli in a gripping five-set showdown (6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1) in the thrilling French Open final this past Sunday.

Although Zverev has consistently ranked among the elite in the ATP men’s standings for the last five years, he has repeatedly fallen short in his pursuit of a Grand Slam, suffering defeats in three previous finals (2025 Australian Open, 2024 French Open, and 2020 US Open).

With formidable challengers like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz absent, Zverev finally ascended to the top.

Zverev roared out of the gates, securing the first set handily after breaking Cobolli’s serve right from the start.

However, the match didn’t remain straightforward for long.

Cobolli, competing in his inaugural Grand Slam final at just 24 years of age, claimed the second set. Although Zverev rebounded in the third, the Italian displayed resilience and earned a tiebreak victory in a tight fourth set.

In the decisive fifth set, Zverev returned to form, breaking Cobolli’s serve in the initial game and staying sharp throughout, despite a few double faults, ultimately basking in victory amid the enthusiastic crowd at Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris.

With this victory, Zverev becomes the first player to capture a Grand Slam title not named Sinner, Alcaraz, or Novak Djokovic since Daniil Medvedev’s US Open win in 2021.
