In an exciting start to their campaign, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her Brazilian teammate Luisa Stefani triumphed in their opening women’s doubles match at the French Open on Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded pairing showcased their skills by overpowering the Dutch-British duo of Ingrid Haverlag and Maia Lumsden with a commanding score of 6-2, 6-0 in the round of 64.

Dabrowski and Stefani were in fine form, successfully converting six out of nine break-point opportunities while also delivering two aces during the match.

Looking ahead, they are set to face either Russia’s Elena Pridankina and China’s Qianhui Tang or the Czech team of Linda Noskova and Tereza Valentova in their next clash.

Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, was preparing to take the court later on Wednesday for her women’s doubles debut alongside Russian partner Diana Shnaider against Oksana Selekhmeteva and Anastasia Zakharova.

Originally, Fernandez and Shnaider were scheduled to compete against Victoria Mboko from Burlington, Ontario, and Alexandra Eala from the Philippines, but the latter pair unfortunately withdrew from the doubles draw. Meanwhile, Mboko is set to face Katerina Siniakova in the second round of women’s singles on Thursday.
