Victoria Mboko has firmly established herself as the leading figure in Canadian women’s tennis.
In an exciting quarterfinal showdown at the Strasbourg International on Thursday, top-seeded Mboko triumphed over No. 7 Leylah Fernandez with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
This victory marks Mboko’s second win against Fernandez, having previously defeated her in a thrilling three-set match in Hong Kong last year on her way to clinching her second tournament title.
During the match, Mboko showcased her serving prowess, winning an impressive 82.1% of points on her first serve, significantly surpassing Fernandez’s 58.7% rate.
Looking ahead, Mboko will face off against world No. 33 Jaqueline Cristian from Romania in the semifinals of this prestigious French Open lead-up event.
In the other semifinal, Emma Navarro is set to compete against fellow American Ann Li.
