PARIS — Holger Rune, once ranked among the top five players in the world, has officially announced his withdrawal from the French Open. He will defer his comeback from Achilles tendon surgery until the grass season next month.

“It’s a difficult choice to skip the clay season, but ultimately, the right one,” Rune expressed on X this past Monday. “I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing you all on the grass!”

The 23-year-old Danish talent underwent surgery following an injury sustained at a tournament in Sweden last October.

Rune has made a mark in the Grand Slam arena, reaching three quarterfinals and achieving a career-high ranking of No. 4 in 2023.

The French Open commences in less than two weeks.

All eyes will be on Rune as he aims to return for the upcoming grass-court season, culminating at Wimbledon, which kicks off on June 29.
