ROME — After celebrating the pinnacle of her career, Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk has decided to withdraw from the Italian Open due to complications with her hip and ankle.

Just crowned champion of the Madrid Open last Saturday, Kostyuk has soared to a career-high ranking of No. 15 this week. With an impressive clay-court title already secured in Rouen, France, the week prior, she’s currently enjoying an 11-match winning streak.

“Following the best stretch of my career, I was eager to take on Rome. But sometimes our bodies dictate otherwise. I have been coping with a hip issue lately, and since my ankle isn’t completely healed, it wouldn’t be wise to push myself further. So, I won’t be competing this year,” Kostyuk shared via Instagram as the Rome tournament kicked off.

“Now it’s time to focus on recovery and prepare for Paris,” she added, looking ahead to the French Open set to commence on May 24.
