Jannik Sinner has been on fire during this European clay season, claiming titles in Monte-Carlo and Madrid. However, as he gears up for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, there’s even more at stake for the Italian ace.
This year’s event marks Sinner’s first opportunity to defend crucial PIF ATP Rankings points since the Australian Open in January. After reaching his first Rome final in 2025, he enters this year’s tournament needing to overcome a deficit of 590 points in the live rankings.
The 24-year-old will also face a similar situation at Roland Garros this month, where he is set to defend 1,300 points after a stellar 2025 performance. On the other hand, renowned rival Carlos Alcaraz is set to lose a significant 3,000 points across both tournaments due to a wrist injury preventing him from defending his titles.
Sinner’s grasp on the World No. 1 position is remarkable, especially considering he was trailing Alcaraz by a substantial 3,350 points as recently as February 2. With 28 titles to his name, Sinner could achieve the coveted Career Golden Masters by clinching his potential sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title in Rome, significantly widening his lead over Alcaraz. A victory at Rome could see him leap 2,790 points ahead of his Spanish adversary.
Nonetheless, should Sinner fall in his opening match against Alex Michelsen or Sebastian Ofner, he would exit the Italian capital with a still-comfortable lead of 1,800 points. As of now, Alcaraz holds 11,960 points in the live rankings.
Potential PIF ATP Live Rankings Points for Sinner in Rome
| Round | Points |
| R64 | 13,760 |
| R32 | 13,800 |
| R16 | 13,850 |
| QF | 13,950 |
| SF | 14,150 |
| F | 14,400 |
| W | 14,750 |
A dip in points over the final two events of this clay season could have lasting effects, particularly as Sinner approaches Wimbledon in June, where a major title—and the accompanying 2,000 PIF ATP Rankings points—are on the line.
